And if you haven’t already had a chance to sign this petition, please take a minute to help bring justice to Luke, and to help expose prosecutorial outrage.
My brother Luke Wirkkala was convicted of 1st degree murder in Bend, Oregon in 2014. He was sexually assaulted and strangled (it takes 10 seconds of strangulation to pass out) in his own home while his girlfriend and two young boys slept in bedrooms. (Review photo to observe strangulation marks on Luke’s neck) Luke retrieved his shotgun, ejected a round and told the subject to leave. When the subject was on top of him again Luke pulled the trigger. There is DNA evidence to support the sexual assault and strangulation. The prosecution stated that the subject was trying to leave the house but if you see the crime scene photos and read the trial transcripts you’ll see that the subject was advancing towards Luke in the kitchen, not the front door. Police stated they had to step over the subjects feet to go to the hallway bedrooms. Luke’s family and friends would like to raise awareness of the wrongful conviction and be aware of the violent history of the subject that was suppressed. STRANGULATION IS LETHAL FORCE. We need to Free Luke Wirkkala and bring him home.
